“I fell in love with Ireland again this summer! With all the bad press and recession talk I thought I’d put together something a little more positive. Arthur’s Day at The Corner House Ardara

The Corner House, Ardara invites you to our Arthur’s Day event on 22nd September 2011 at 17.59

In 2001, the Corner House was purchased by the partnership of Peter Oliver, Eamon McNelis and Stephen McCahill. Peter Oliver is one of the great enigmas of Ardara. He owned and managed the Central Bar in the centre of Ardara for many years and was instrumental in the development of Ardara as a great tourist destination. Peter Oliver has brought all that experience and knowledge to the Corner House and is a key factor in making the Corner House what it is today, one of the main factors is the sustaining of Ardara as an important tourist attraction in Co. Donegal.

Corner House – Facebook Page

The Corner House Bar, Ardara is steeped in the history of the town. The older generation can recall F. X. Cannon as the landlord there and his unique and traditional Corner Shop and Bar. Later the premises came into the ownership of John Sharpe and his family when Francie Cannon passed on. John was the shophand all his life at the Corner House and was a popular and respected Landlord. In the 1990’s John handed over the reins of the business to his daughter Janet who completely refurbished the premises and made it one of the finest bars of its time in Ardara and surrounding area.

Throughout the summer and at weekends musicians from all over the world descend on the Corner House and some of the finest music can be heard at the Corner House. The Corner House is the perfect place to meet friends and visitors and have an enjoyable drink in peace and tranquillity. Many articles and stories have been written about the Corner House but only a visit to this unique establishment can one appreciate why it is regarded as one of Irelands pure most Pubs.

The “Inishowen 100″ is one of Ireland’s most scenic drives. Its a 100-mile (160km) circular route around the Inishowen Peninsula in North East Donegal. Bounded on three sides by water, the peninsula is almost triangular in shape, between Lough Foyle and Lough Swilly and bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the north.

With splendid coastal scenery plus a good collection of ancient forts and monuments, traditional craft centres, and a dozen or so friendly villages, many people consider Inishowen to be a miniature Donegal.

Scenic highlights include the breathtaking Gap of Mamore, a scenic roadway that rises to a height of 800 feet above sea level before following a twisting corkscrew descent with panoramic views of the entire northern coastline; Malin Head, Ireland’s most northerly point; and Fort Dunree – a magnificent viewing outpost.

High Speed Broadband for Letterkenny

Households in Letterkenny could soon have access to ultra high speed broadband.

It’s emerged that the company which oversees high speed fibre networks in eight areas of Donegal is examining the possibility of a household wiring project in the county’s biggest town.

E-Net’s Chief Executive made the announcement as the company announced increased profits and turnover for the last financial year.

E-Net manages metropolitan area networks in 94 areas of the country, including Letterkenny, Buncrana, Ballybofey, Carndonagh, Ballyshannon, Bundoran, Donegal Town and Gweedore.

Enet Chief Executive Conal Henry told the Irish Independent that the amount of data carried on the MANs almost doubled over the past year and that many clients were now seeking to secure very high-speed data access to their premises.

Mr Henry also confirmed that Enet has been exploring the possibility of delivering fibre directly to about 10,000 homes in Letterkenny, in a move that would cost between €10m and €15m.

However, he stressed that Enet was still examining what would be a tough business case for the investment and that it was far from certain that such a deployment would proceed.

Letterkenny has also been chosen by Eircom as one of the towns where it is installing next-generation broadband technology.
