The Pyros – I Want You

Buncrana band The Pyros returned to Donegal last year to record a long awaited CD. The album, aptly titled “At Last” was recorded in the tiny town of Culdaff in the legendary McGrory’s Backroom Bar. This is a song from that CD mixed with pictures and video snippets from the band’s Irish tour of Christmas 2009.

Deireadh an tSamhraidh – time lapse video

The video contains time-lapses from different places along the north coastline of Ireland, including Malin Head. The song is called “Old Reggae” which is played by the band Mutefish. They own the rights to the music.

Malin Head has always been a strategically important part of the country, where observation posts and signal towers were erected to keep an eye on shipping movements passing the northern coast. From the Spanish Armada, to the French fleet during the Napoleonic Wars, and more recently, during the two world wars. Before satellite communication, there used to be a radio station here, and there is still an active weather station, which provides important data to local and international weather bureaux. The most northerly point in Ireland is marked by an old signal tower on top of a hill known as Banba’s Crown. – A popular tourist destination. From here, probably the best views are looking south at the magnificent vista provided by the Inishowen Hills; though on a clear day, one can see as far as the Scottish Hebrides to the east and Tory Island to the west.

Traditional Music Weekend Tory Island

Every weekend traditional Irish music and dancing is celebrated on Tory Island. So why not come over to the island and experience this. The Irish language is also very strong here.

The people of Tory delight in expressing themselves in music, song and dance. Tory boasts many accomplished melodeon players. Céilís are held regularly in Club na Maighdine Mara and young and old alike take to the floor to dance not only the great Irish sets and reels, Ionsaí na hlnse, Ballai Luimnigh and Cor Seisear Déag, but also dances which are not very well known outside Donegal. There are many excellent singers on the island who give fine renditions of traditional songs and ballads.

A Shine Of Rainbows – Trailer

This film was shot on location in Inishowen, Donegal, Ireland.

Tomas, a frail, shy eight-year-old boy, has been living a solitary life in a drab orphanage – sad, friendless and alone. Then a joyous burst of colour comes into his world: Maire O’Donnell, whose smile and spirit light up the darkest room – and Tomas’s heart. Before he knows it, Tomas is on a boat, sailing to wind-swept Corrie Island off the coast of Ireland, where he meets Alec, her reticent husband who cannot hide his disappointment with the boy.

Undiscouraged, Maire introduces Tomas the wonders of his new world. She shares with him the secret of the seals, the mystery of the stone giant and shows him that you can find magic anywhere- if you really look. In this rugged and enchanting world, Tomas thrives. He befriends a pair of island children and rescues an orphan seal pup who join him on his journey of self-discovery. Slowly, Alec too begins to see in Tomas what Maire always has.

But when tragedy strikes, Tomas is faced with his greatest challenge yet, for he’ll lose everything unless he can find – and share – the magic that’s inside him. Risking all, Tomas embarks on a perilous journey where he will need to call on all of Maire’s gifts to triumph and come home.

A Shine of Rainbows is a story about the transformational power of love- about finding acceptance, discovering magic, and about realizing that rainbows are all around you – and within you, too.
