Moville Regatta

An annual regatta is held at Moville every year in August, and has done so since early in the 19th century. In older times the one-man punt was popular, whereas nowadays the race of the home-made rafts brings competitors from many counties and large spectator crowds

A whole series of events will take place just off the pier in Moville. The date coincides with the Moville Summer Festival and there is always a big crowd for Moville’s Regatta – which has been running for many a year.

Inishowen International Guitar Festival

The 1st Inishowen International Guitar Festival, three days of guitar heaven, took place in and around McGrory’s of Culdaff, Inishowen, north Donegal, on the weekend of 5 / 6 / 7 February 2010.

In the inaugural year we were delighted to present a wide spectrum of musical styles on both acoustic and electric guitars, from some of the foremost players and pickers in the world today.

Headlining was Jennifer Batten, instantly recognisable as the blonde lead guitarist in Michael Jackson’s band since 1989. Jennifer has also played and recorded extensively with Jeff Beck.

We had the rare combination of jazz and Nintendo tunes from Wim den Herder (Netherlands), Chet Atkins thumb-and-finger style from Gareth Pearson (Wales), bluegrass and beyond from Beppe Gambetta (Italy), acoustic blues from Johnny Dickinson (UK) and the exquisite Celtic fingerstyle of Clive Carroll.

Home-grown talent is equally represented by the mighty Henry McCullough, Arty McGlynn, Jerome McGlynn, Jimmy Smyth, Grainne Duffy, Paul Sherry, Paul Buckley, Percy Robinson and the Deans.

You can fish off the end of Bunagee Pier for small coalies, pollack and the odd mullet straight down the side of the quay wall.

Mackerel take feather rigs here and spinners. Casting baits out on to the open ground gives you the chance of dogfish, dabs, flounders and codling.

The “Inishowen 100″ is one of Ireland’s most scenic drives. Its a 100-mile (160km) circular route around the Inishowen Peninsula in North East Donegal. Bounded on three sides by water, the peninsula is almost triangular in shape, between Lough Foyle and Lough Swilly and bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the north.

With splendid coastal scenery plus a good collection of ancient forts and monuments, traditional craft centres, and a dozen or so friendly villages, many people consider Inishowen to be a miniature Donegal.

Scenic highlights include the breathtaking Gap of Mamore, a scenic roadway that rises to a height of 800 feet above sea level before following a twisting corkscrew descent with panoramic views of the entire northern coastline; Malin Head, Ireland’s most northerly point; and Fort Dunree – a magnificent viewing outpost.
