Donegal Bridgestone Guide 2012 – Donegal businesses have featured prominently in this year’s Bridgestone Guide.
Speaking of which, Linsfort Castle B & B, located on the shores of Lough Swilly just outside Buncrana, has been selected for the second year running as one of the 100 Best Places to stay as well.
Owners Alan Rooks and Brigeen Clafferty only got into the B&B business in 2008. Alan says being one of the Bridgestone 100 makes a huge difference. “Up to 2011 our clients were mainly visitors already coming to Inishowen who found us through our web site. However, after getting in the Top 100, we found that quite a number of new customers were actually coming to Linsfort as a destination. Thanks to Bridgestone, I think that we have been able to make a useful contribution to the effort to put Inishowen on the tourist map of Ireland”
Eileen and Neil opened The Green Man shop in June 2006 on Dunfanaghy’s Main Street, with the aim of providing local and imported foods which were not readily available in the area. They also decided where possible, to stock organic and fairtrade products. The Green Man is recommended by the Bridgestone Guide.
The Green Man Mobile Delicatessen was set up in May 2010. Neil takes the trailer to local markets and towns.

Congratulations to the Mill Restaurant, Dunfanaghy on winning “Hideaway of the Year” at annual Georgina Campbell awards cermony on Tuesday 11th October 2011. The Restaurant has an idyllic location on the shores of New Lake on the outskirts of Dunfanaghy – a place which has become a haven for seabirds in recent years and is now a special area of conservation.
The restaurant itself is a split level room overlooking the New Lake. It is a small friendly restaurant offering a relaxing but efficient service. Dinner is served between 7pm and 9pm, Tuesday to Sunday. The dinner menu changes every 4-6 weeks using fresh local produce in season. Derek and his small team produce food with a modern Irish flavour, with an emphasis on local seafood and shellfish…. more details and photos
